Google News, this month started using Wikipedia as a new source. Typically, it only news, but according to Google Wikipedia articles are a useful complement to these sources. According to Google spokesperson Gabriel Stricker, the first company with a small group of Google News users experimented with the use of Wikipedia. When it became clear that it did was the addition this month to the News site. “We saw that users Wikipedia were a useful addition to the many stories that they saw. Wikipedia often gave a broader perspective on the subject.” There are sometimes put in question the reliability of articles on Wikipedia, but supporters of the encyclopedia indicate that the sources are usually extended to appear, especially if it is on recent events. It’s not necessary to be a news reporter for CNN or BBC to get significant traffic from Google News. You need to work fast to stay up to date, though. Google typically retains these news articles for 30 days so they’ll cycle out after that time. To use the Google News search, type in the site first. Once you’re there, enter keywords for what you want to find. The Google approved sites relating to your keywords will pop up. The fewer responses you see, the less popular things from your keyword are. These page owners have indicated to Google that their sites carry good news. If you feel that your site also carries good news articles but isn’t included from your keyword search, submit it to Google for approval. Once your site is approved by Google, you’ll get lots of traffic. To submit a page for approval, on the home page, you’ll find a link that says “about Google News” at the bottom of the page that you need to click on. Go to FAQs from that page and to Question 26. You can contact Google and recommend a news source if you select the first choice. If your site carries up to date news, submit it to be approved. Don’t be discouraged if your site is new and doesn’t get approved. Older sites get priority. You can use press releases if you want to be in Google News. It doesn’t have to be written by professionals. These are reviewed by an editing team and can be written in 10 to 15 minutes. All you need is a few paragraphs. Then just submit it to PRWeb. This may bring some publicity and get people looking at your site. Return to the home page and search for prweb.com. There will be many pages that will pop up on Google News that people will see your press release on.

If there is one thing that most webmasters or bloggers work hard to increase everyday besides their websites income, it has to be traffic. They are many different methods that one can use to drive traffic, some are easier to implement than others and some will get you more traffic than others.

One way to get more traffic for your blog is to get it approved for the Google news service. What this service does is search the database of news sources and tries to bring you the most relevant news stories based on your search.

When it comes to choosing news sources the Google service is quite picky as to who it includes in its database. I do know of an example of one blog that was allowed in and then after a few weeks was removed when they decided that the blog did not meet their requirements.

If the quality of your blog is high and if it has a proven record, there is a very high possibility of your blog being included into Google news and stay there. Your website has to be something that is relevant to the main subject areas of the service. If you go to their main page and look on the left hand menu you will see these categories like Top Stories, World, Sports, Health and Most Popular.

In order to submit your blog go to the main page and scroll down to the bottom. There is a link that reads ‘About Google News’. When you click on that link on the next page you will get a page with a link to ‘Help For Publishers’. Under the ‘Getting Started’ section, select ‘Submitting Your Content’ then click on ‘Google News’ and simply follow the instructions.

Many people worldwide visit the news section of Google daily. If you manage to get your blog listed in there you could start to enjoy hordes of free traffic from this source. More so, if your blog has relevant content that is updated regularly.
