If you had money to invest in a stock, would you invest in a stock that had no income? Even if it had a great management team, stellar marketing team, solid sales team and incredible systems in place, you wouldn’t invest in it if it didn’t have income.

Some people may not know how to build a great business. Perhaps they can’t structure solid business models. These same people may know how to build online income well. We shouldn’t minimize the value of that.

The late Mary Kay started by buying wholesale cosmetics. She then turned around and sold those cosmetics to women. She turned it into a business. Mary Kay was worth over one billion dollars at the time of her death.

Colonel Sanders had to close his original restaurant because the state was building an interstate that ran through it. The government gave him a small check as a result. Colonel Sanders didn’t just sit still. He took his chicken recipe to restaurants all over the country. After over 1,000 rejections, he finally found a partner and Kentucky Fried Chicken was formed. He wanted to generate income from that chicken recipe and it became a massively successful business.

Think about eBay. There are thousands of people that started selling things on eBay just to make some extra money. Many individuals started selling there as a part-time gig and did so well that they were able to turn it into a solid business. And today, many people support themselves that way.

Business and Income Go Hand-in-Hand

I’m not saying that you shouldn’t build a business, it’s just we can get distracted by the smaller tasks involved in the process. You need to also focus on generating income; if you have income, your business is viable.

Think about the dot-com boom and bust. Just about all those companies had business plans. Essentially all of them had management teams, marketing teams, sales teams and systems in place. There were billions of dollars in venture capital money invested in the companies. Even so, just about all those businesses went under.

Webvan couldn’t make any money delivering groceries to people’s doorsteps. Likewise, the original pets.com and furniture.com couldn’t generate income. Many of these companies received venture capital money. They had great business structures but they didn’t have income. Without income streams, these companies completely disappeared.

Don’t get me wrong; you need to build a business. Income generation is just so critical; if you are skilled in that area, you’ll have a much easier path to success. If you know how to make money and get that income stream in place, you can then hire someone to turn that income into an actual business.

Don’t get buried under the idea that you must have certain things in place before you can start making money.

In most cases, if you can generate the income, you have a great opportunity to turn that into a business. It’s not true 100% of the time. There may be instances where that income stream doesn’t have what it takes to make a solid business; however, most of the time, you can make a business if you have income generation.

Get to Making Money

When you’re building a business, it’s easy to get swamped and not have results. You can do all these monotonous tasks but not generate any money. You’re constantly in motion and you are exhausted but you don’t have monetary results.

Just get to it. Simply, get to the making money part. Think about Apple. The iPod wasn’t a business when it started. It was supposed to be a new income stream for Apple. Instead, it turned into an entire business of its own, simply because it became so huge.

Give it a try. Pursue some kind of income generation. Don’t get bogged down with building your business. Hire someone to help you build the business once you have the income in place.

We all have different talents. Some people just aren’t that skilled in the business-building area. Others aren’t terribly skilled in the income-building area. Perhaps you can structure your business but you need to bring in some people to generate income. Conversely, you may be excellent at generating income but need help in the business-building arena.

Multiple Paths to Business Success

There is no one specific path to business success. We get so caught up in the right and wrong way of doing things. Instead, we need to realize that there are multiple paths to success.

Again, it’s important to build a business but not to throw that by the wayside altogether. Your business’s growth is important. It’s fine to create cash flow first. Don’t postpone income generation.

Essentially, you need to both build a business and generate income. The best-performing companies and stocks are those that have great income and first-rate management. This means they have superior people running and growing the business. 

Use Income to Get Building Help

If you feel as if you’re stuck when it comes to building your business, don’t feel guilty about pursuing income. It’s absolutely fine to chase the dollar initially. You may try many things that do not work. Then suddenly you may strike something that works, and you’ll begin to generate cash flow.

At this point, you see that it can turn into something bigger and better. You can then either build it up yourself to turn it into a business, or use the income you generated to hire people to build the business. Once you have income streams in place, seek out business builders to help you create the structure and long-term plan for your company. You don’t have to do it all on your own. 

Determine Your Website’s Earning Ability

Every website has earning ability. Various types of people from all over the world want to generate income from their websites.

You’ll see that every website has three different things that basically determine its capacity and capability to generate income.

The three things are:

1. Core offering

2. Asset build

3. Equity build

The core offering is what the website has to offer the public. Think about this in terms of your business website. What problems are you solving? What solutions are you providing? Who is your particular market? What is your offering’s price point? What other offers have you packed into your sales process? This is essential; you must have a strong core offering.

Asset build and equity build are all about the ability to grow both the website’s assets and equity position. As you work through the document, have fun with it.

For many of you, it will be a bit of a rude awakening. You’ll see all the different ways you can generate income from your website. These are tangible things that you can begin doing immediately to make money.

For some of you, it may be a refresher or a reminder. It can give you a little nudge of encouragement. You’ll see that there are a lot of things that you are already doing, and maybe some extra things that you can begin doing now.

While this isn’t designed to be the definitive document on how to generate income, it serves as a great jumpstart to your process. Add your own ideas to the sheet. By all means, expand on it. You’ll find great value as you actually use it.

Remember, you need both a solid business and income. It doesn’t matter if you build the business first or start generating income first. There isn’t necessarily a right or wrong way to do it.

Make your own path; just get started down the road to success!

No real surprises at the top, with Swine Flu causing panic across the UK in the early part of the summer and Susan Boyle becoming an overnight sensation thanks to Britain’s Got Talent towards the middle of the year. Jade Goody’s death was the reason search terms for the Big Brother Celebrity were so high, and probably the same for Michael Jackson, who also died this year.

The other spots are taken by Rihanna who had the infamous issues with her boyfriend, and Katie Price is also there, as she dominated the headlines with the on / off Peter Andre relationship and then the inevitable divorce that followed. The release of Twilight lead to Robert Pattinson lead to this actor rising up the news search terms, with Google maps completing the top ten, probably because of the Street View controversy that struck this year.

So, the question we began to ask ourselves, would our friends in America be searching for anything else, or is news a truly global matter.

The Swine Flue worry also matched the concern in the UK, with that being the top search in the American Google News, with Rihanna and Michael Jackson also matching in the top ten. Tiger Woods made a late charge into the top rising searches, for obvious reasons, and the top ten also saw a few movies and celebrities feature, with New Moon being an example of this.

You may have your heart set on a particular make or model and you might have explored the new and second hand car prices on the internet and have decided that you can afford to purchase the car of your dreams, but a question you have to ask yourself is can you afford to run it? Previously you may have asked yourself this question in passing and not really given it any real thought, but with the changes in Vehicle Excise Duty in 2009 and spiralling fuel and maintenance costs, coupled with the Credit Crunch and the through of recession for the next few years then running costs become much more important, therefore compromising and picking a car that you not only like, but will save you money in the long run is a sensible thing to do. What about the changes in Vehicle Excise Duty? Now cars are classed by how much Carbon Dioxide they emit, therefore more environmentally friendly cars will be charged less Vehicle Excise Duty than more polluting vehicles. At the time of writing the least polluting cars will be exempt from paying tax at all, where as the most polluting cars (class M) such as large, big engined 4×4 vehicles will have to pay £440 per year. Come 2010-11 then this cost increases further to £455 per year. If you’re looking to purchase a brand new car, then there will be another shock for your wallet and it has been dubbed the ’showroom tax.’ If you’re looking to drive that Class M car out of the showroom, you’ll also have to face a bill for a one off ’showroom tax’ payment of £950. To help you pick the right car in this current environmental and financial climate we’ve compiled a top ten list of cars and car related schemes to consider that could save you money. 1. Buy a Small Family Hatchback. Small family hatchbacks are generally more economical to run and are usually big enough to meet most people’s needs. For example the VW Polo Bluemotion 1.4 Tdi is an economical runabout which falls into the Group A tax band. Not only do you not have to pay any tax on this vehicle, you can also avoid paying the showroom tax as this diesel car is so economical it is exempt. This car also boasts around 70mpg which makes it super cheap to run. 2. Buy a Diesel. When it comes to economical cars, vehicles with diesel engines are first to spring to most people’s minds. Whilst historically this was typically true, with the cost of diesel at the pump increasingly outstripping the cost of petrol, buying a diesel may not be the best way to save money. For drivers who typically need to drive a lot of miles each year then a diesel will still be more cost effective than its petrol equivalent. However if you do not drive many miles then this may not be true. You’ll need to do the maths before you take the plunge in buying a diesel car. On the plus side, the miles to the gallon of a diesel vehicle is typically much higher than petrol cars, so you will at the very least be doing more for the environment. Diesel vehicles are also typically classed into a lower tax band saving money on Vehicle Excise Duty. 3. Bi-Fuel Cars. Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) as a method of running a car or van is becoming a popular way of running a vehicle more environmentally friendly and economically. Although you can buy a bi-fuel car from new many people pay to convert their current car to support LPG. The cost to convert a car is typically around £1500 and a real saving of around 30% on fuel costs can be made with each fill up at the pumps. Finding a petrol station that sells LPG may be one of the more difficult aspects of owning a LPG vehicle, with at least 10% of forecourts now stocking this alternate fuel type. 4. Electric Cars. – For many years electric cars have been pitched as the salvation to spiralling fuel costs and saving the environment from car pollution. Unfortunately in reality the electric vehicle hasn’t really lived up to the hype, with slow vehicles and short battery life limiting range. There are a few vehicles on the market which may be suitable depending on your circumstances. If you live in the centre of a large capital city such as London then a vehicle like the G-Wiz may be the right vehicle for you. Owning a G-Wiz in London could make perfect sense as they are exempt from paying parking charges in Westminster, do not have to pay the Central London Congestion Charge and are free from both road tax and petrol costs. However there are some catches. The G-Wiz is a tiny vehicle and feels very cramped inside. The car has a top speed of 50-60 miles per hour, which may not be the end of the world in a city where traffic barely moves faster than a snail pace. Another limiting factor is that the range of the vehicle is just 70 miles and it takes a while to recharge the batteries, which is not quite as simple as filling up at a petrol station! A less extreme version of the G-Wiz is the Toyota Prius, a hybrid electric vehicle which predominately runs off petrol, but uses electric power at low speeds and recharges the batteries at faster speeds. The Prius can do around 65 mpg making it an extremely economical car to drive. 5. Large Cars For the Family and Dog. If you’re single and want to save money on your car running costs or do your bit for the environment then you have a lot more options than families who need a larger vehicle to fit everyone in. Whilst smaller cars are more likely to be economical there are some larger vehicles out there which have been designed with both space and economy in mind. Take the Ford Focus C-Max 1.6 TDCI LX- a MPV which has been designed to give plenty of room inside. This is a five seat car which boasts a 1620 litre boot space and a top speed of 115mph. With fairly low emissions, helping to save money on Vehicle Excise Duty and decent economy with 58mpg this vehicle is a good bet for a family looking to save money. 6. Sports Performance in a ‘Green Car’. Traditionally being green means that you also have to sacrifice something. However car manufacturers being aware of this have been trying to come up with a compromise- a car with good performance, yet can also give a decent MPG return. For example the Honda Accord 2.2 I-CTDI Sport is one of these cars with 52.3 MPG and a top speed of 129 miles per hour, a great combination of efficiency and performance that can meet all your expectations. 7. Buy a Classic Car. If you’re scared that you’ll loose a lot of money on the value of your car then buying a classic car may be the best option for you. Try to avoid fashion trends such as the one for VW Beetles and Camper Vans which inflate the cost of these vehicles short term for them to only crash at a later date. Instead pick a car that pure enthusiasts hanker after, as most classic cars tend to hold their value, or indeed increase over time as long as they are looked after. Maintenance costs are likely to be much higher with a classic vehicle and they may not be the most economical on the market, but for pure return on investment if you pick the right vehicle then you will likely get your money back when you come to sell the car. 8. Car Sharing Schemes. Those looking to save money on their everyday running costs of their cars could consider car sharing schemes. Basically car sharing schemes are set up for people to take turns when they drive, saving themselves money on fuel, plus gaining the benefit that they do not have to drive all the time! There are plenty of car sharing schemes out there, such as ones set up for parents doing the school run to a scheme for members of the Met Police Force in London. Explore the options in your local area and you may find that car sharing is a great way to save money. Perhaps if you want to get even more involved you could consider setting up your very own scheme. 9. Time Share Cars. You’ve heard all about time share villas in the Costa del Sol, but you don’t necessary have to be scared of time share car schemes. These schemes can range from clubs where you get a share of a Ferrari or Bentley to drive at the weekend every so often, to pay-as-you-go car schemes where you can join a club, and simply book a run-around for as long as you want from an hour to a day. For those who tend to use public transport predominately and can’t really justify owning a car then a pay-as-you-go scheme may be the perfect way of having access to a car without having to pay expensive rental costs. Live in a city and fancy a country jaunt once a month? No problem, book a car online and pick it up, swipe your membership card on the dashboard and you’re away! Generally fuel costs (up to a point) are included and insurance is also taken car of. 10. Car Finance Packages. In the current economic climate taking out a car finance package makes perfect sense as you can split your payments over many months allowing you to fully budget for your vehicle. If you are considering buying a car in cash over a forecourt you may be concerned about the recession and redundancy. Having a nest egg in the bank can help provide comfort and piece of mind. Spending that nest egg in the current climate may not be the most sensible thing to do therefore buying a car on a car finance scheme can be the smart move. Also you will likely be able to afford a better car on finance than you might if you were to buy a car outright. The newer the car the more likely your maintenance costs will be reduced, again saving you money in the long run.

Big brother is watching

Thanks to the advent of printed calories on food packets, it has never been simpler to keep track of the dietary requirements that our bodies need. In the USA however, this has been taken to a new levels of culinary insanity. Certain states have made it a law for fast-food outlets and restaurants to post the calorie rating on each and every meal item. This will certainly make a few dieters nervous. To be fair, they only wish to inform the public at large to what they are exactly spooning into their mouths. New fast-food ventures have been banned in certain states and specific non-diet products are being imposed with taxes. That will certainly keep waistlines down.

Dieting on a budget

For some, the recession is the best diet they could ever be on (for some perhaps even their first). Thank to an increase in global spending and a decrease in global savings, our pockets (and pantries) have never been so dry before. This is the best time to be on diet then. The recession has literally forced us to cut out luxury items as healthy foods have become increasingly easier to afford. When you next make a shopping list, examine what is considered necessary and what is considered luxury. Dividing this into a clear list will come as a shock to you, as many of your much loved foods will turn out to be luxury items only! Vegetables and fruits have not been hit as hard as other items, so stock up and let the sweet nectar of health infuse you. This brings health food items to the top of my list.

The business of the sweetener

Aspartame can kill you. This is the hard truth. Studies have shown that an excess of this incredibly popular sweetener can increase your chance of contracting certain types of dangerous cancers. No thanks, not for me I say. The ever-resourceful FDA has now approved a new addition to the sweetener canon though, named Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni, or Stevia for short. Stevia is a part of 240 species of plant which can combine to form a substance that has the long-lasting taste of sugar, with none of the drawbacks that come with Aspartame. In actual fact, Stevia can be up to 300 times sweeter than sugar, plus it has been shown to combat obesity and high blood pressure. Miracles can happen!

Pick and choose the food you want

Gattica predicted it and now the future truly has come into play with bio-engineered foods. Many stores now allow you to select the ingredients you wish to have in your food. A quick search on the internet reveals that there are many sites that let users add items to their food such as breakfast cereals, chocolates, cakes, sausage ingredients and much more! Why settle for standard ingredients when you can be directly in charge of the health products that make their way into your shopping cart.
