MALAYSIA Nonstop: The Boeing 777 Story (Part 2 of 3)

Posted by admin

Malaysia Airline’s Boeing 777-200IGW (9M-MRA) 10 Years Anniversary of Great Circle Distance Without Landing record. Uploaded this documentary just for the anniversary purpose. On April 2, 1997, a Boeing 777-200ER, tail registration 9M-MRA (dubbed the “Super Ranger”) of Malaysia Airlines, broke the Great Circle Distance Without Landing record for an airliner by flying east (the long way) from Boeing Field, Seattle, to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, covering the distance of 20044 km in 21 hours, 23 minutes.

I think it depends on the route. But, I don’t think Malaysia Airlines bought the A330 to replace the 777. They have some older A330s and are replacing those planes with the new ones with upgraded performance and interior cabins.

Malaysia Airlines gonna acquired more Airbus A330 because of its fuel efficiency compare to Boeing 777..

is A330 more fuel efficient than Boeing 777 ???

    but i just google it…

    777-300ER – 73.9m in length
    A340-600 – 75.3m in length

the 777-300/777-300ER is the longest commercial airplane in the world, NOT the A340-600 as most ppl think.

IGW and ER are the same plane. Originally, Boeing was calling the planes -200IGWs (Increased Gross Weight). Eventually, the plane was renamed as -200ER (Extended Range).

A 737 is as big as a GE90 engine used by some 777 operators! Imagine that, an engine the size of an airplane!

  16. By humexavier on Şub 1, 2010 | Reply

That engine is 100% made with magnetic enhanced charged allow metal for less vibration force against each engine part making it a huge magnetized engine box kept secret: I think?

A 737 is big, but if a 737 stands next to a 777, its very small.

  21. By IloveSPIDERZ on Şub 1, 2010 | Reply

I know, right. We get alot of 737’s at KALB and I think they are big, but then realized they are just puny.

I agree with you, yes it is a large plane but it depends if the size they’re talking about is in relation to the amount of passengers the plane can take and/or it’s range.

The 777, 772, 773 were in service from 1995 onwards and the only other plane of comparable size to the 777’s were the A340, 342 and 343 and the Ilyushin 96-300 :) which were all in service at the time of the 777’s release leaving my favourite beastie the 747-400 on her own as far as large passenger aircraft go :)

  23. By mammerlemam on Şub 1, 2010 | Reply

Yes I know. But I meant the civilian aircrafts. So there was in that time only one civilian big-size aircraft! I don’t know if the 773 was released then, but I really think that is a big-size aircraft.

  24. By Fordgirl on Şub 1, 2010 | Reply

At the time the 777 was released it’s bigger brother the 747-400 was the biggest passenger aircraft but if you add the military heavy lifters then the Russian Antonov 124 and 225 are bigger then the 747-400. The USAF’s C-5 Galaxy and the C-141 Starlifter are all around the size of the Queen of the Skies :)
